Why do you Lead? What gives you the desire to step up or step out and Lead? The answer to that question varies for everyone of us. But one thing we all have in common is that we want to make a difference in this world. So hopefully you will take small steps towards that every day. As leaders we should grow and learn consuming knowledge, different perspectives, and new ideas in order to become more effective.
So, Why do we Lead? Like you I hope to make a huge difference in the world. I believe that when most of us hear the word Lead it seems a little scary. Okay it seems a lot scary. And just because you want to lead, it isn’t always the easiest thing to do. I have dealt with the scary part of leadership and feeling inadequate to lead. I am reminded of the story of the talents in the Bible. Three servants have been entrusted with 5 , 2 , and 1 talents. The servants with five and two talents double the amounts they have been given, while the servant with one talent digs a hole and buries his talent in the ground. When the master returns he finds that the servants with the five and two talents now have ten and four, while the remaining servant still only has one. When asked why he still only has one he begins to make excuses. The Master then congratulates the two and scolds the one. The moral of this story is no matter what you have been given, how big or small, you are to grow and develop your talent. In reference to this particular post it references leadership. I have often been fearful of what leadership I could offer to others. Who would follow if I were leading anyway? When you hear statements like, “if you think you’re leading and no one is following you, then you’re only taking a walk.” Fear becomes more prevalent. You ask yourself, “What if no one ever follows?” The problem is that if you let that mentality overtake your life, you will never Lead or accomplish anything because of fear.
So I have decided to lead no matter what. I will make an effort to be an encouragement to others that follow and I would encourage you as a leader to do the same. I have found that there are those that are following, even though at times I wondered if they would. So I encourage you to not let fear or any other deterrent prevent you from your destiny and the dreams that God has placed in your heart. So today make a conscious decisions that I will lead! I will make a difference. So what if I only have one talent/gift I will multiply it and share it with the others I lead. And I will lead with excellence those that God has placed in my care.
